Introduction to Voice OverFEE: $50ONE DAY

For those of you who have been wanting to get started in Voice Over but "life got in the way", I've created a new accelerated process of exploring your abilities to see whether or not you wish to invest your time in the pursuit of Voice Over!

This workshop will only be held 3x this year: January 16, March 13 and May 15.   Each session is from 1:00-5:00PM   Limit: 6 students each session.  Fee: $50.  Reservations and Fees must be paid one week prior to session.

You will receive important Hand-Outs on the business, including suggestions and expenses involved for Home Recording Programs and equipment.  (You must be able to record at home if you want to get VO work!) AND, you will perform on mic in 3 VO categories: Warm & Friendly, Authoritative,

and Stylized.

Basics Foundational #1    FEE: $15010:30AM-4:30PM

Learn the Basic 4 Categories necessary to competently perform in any area of Voice Over! Whether it’s commercials, narrations, cartoons or audio books, each area of Voice Over demands that  the performer understand how to express various attitudes and emotions and, how to take direction.  Includes Hand-Outs, Scripts, Workbook, Example CD and lots of practice on mic. 

Basics Foundational #2    FEE: $15010:30AM-4:30PM

Continue to build your foundation of performances with work in Advanced Categories, such as Sophisticated, Stylized, Promos & Dialogues.  Learn Tips & Tricks of the Pros to make your interpretations unique!  Includes more Hand-Outs, an additional CD,  and more Scripts to add to your Basics Workbook, as well as more intense work on mic. 

NARRATION WORKSHOP   FEE: $100     ONE DAY 

Sessions will be scheduled upon sufficient registrations.

*NOTE:  Although you may attend the full day, you will need to choose your 45 minute Assigned Slot when you sign up:10AM, 10:45, 11:30, 12:15PM; 2:00, 2:45, 3:30, 4:15.

As most of you know, the Narration field is where we get most of our work, especially in a local market, although there are many new opportunities over the Internet!  The professional Narrator has learned specific skills such as: learning to read fluidly without mistakes, being able to consistently express the attitude the client wants throughout long scripts, pacing and timing.  You will receive a Workbook with Scripts, Important Hand-Outs with pointers for a professional recording session, and a CD of Professional Narrator examples.   I recommend you pick up the workbook before the Workshop. (Fee is required at pickup.) NOTE: SPECIAL OFFER:  If you sign up for TWO of the Narration Workshops, you may attend the Second one for half price!   This is a great way to get in MORE practice with my direction on mic and get a copy of your work to listen and re-record at home!  Prerequisite: Taken the Basics Workshop or previous VO experience.   

INTERMEDIATE WORKSHOP FEE: $160  4 SESSIONS  7-9PM  LIMIT:  4

Weekly Workouts are for people who have done Voice Over or have completed the Basics.  The Intermediate format is unstructured.  People use these sessions to explore and complete performances for their Repertoire, finalize material for their Demo, work on problem areas or just to "keep up the old chops!"  You work at your own pace but you need to be self-motivated!  Lou will guide you through a plan to accomplish your goal to become a competitive performer.

ADVANCED WORKSHOP  FEE: $240   4 SESSIONS  7-9PM 

I will be accepting 3 students for a Tuesday or Wednesday workshop from 7-9PM for 4 consecutive weeks; starting January 19 & 20. This workshop will include the "Enhancing Your Voice Over Performances" workbook with a supplementary CD, and script assignments for each week.  This is an opportunity to test your competence on various types of scripts as well as bring your recording skills up to standard.  Prerequisite: You must be able to record at home for this class.

NOTE: If you pay in full at the start date, you may deduct $40; OR        You can pay with 4 post-dated checks.

DEMO PREP    FEE:  $50

I will be holding sessions the 4th Saturday of each month from 10:30AM-1:30PM to review materials you've been working on for your Demo.  Each student will receive a half hour private consultation, but may stay for the entire session.  You will progress faster if you bring in material that you've recorded, but you may also use the time to review materials, ask questions, learn recording skills, etc.

I will only be accepting 3 students for these sessions and require 72 hours advance reservations.   Fee: $50.

EMAIL AUDITION PRACTICE

For those of you who are at an Intermediate or Advanced Level, and/or for those who haven't be able to continue your sessions, here's a way to practice your Recording Skills and Learn How to Audition online.  I will follow the same process that is used by the On-Line Representation sites so you get used to following specific directions for submission, PLUS I will be giving you Feedback. . . both on your performance and quality of recording! 

Here are the specifics:

2 auditions each month:  $25     You'll receive a script every other week. 

3 auditions each month:  $40     You'll receive a script each week for 3 weeks; the 4th week you can submit your own work for evaluation; Limit: 2 scripts.

The scripts will be sent on the 5th and 10th and 15th of each month, depending on which pay schedule you choose.  There will be specific directions for submission as well as the date the audition is due. The Due Date will always be 4 days after you receive the script.  You can only start at the first of any month and you will need to pay your monthly fee by the 1st of each month through PayPal.   

THE BUSINESS OF VOICE OVER             FEE: $100  ONE NIGHT    7-9PM

NOTE:  You can always buy the Manual for $50 and once you’ve taken the Workshop, you can Review the Workshop whenever it’s scheduled for $50.  No prerequisite.

This Workshop goes through the entire VO Reference Manual which is an invaluable reference source from all of my 35 years of experience in the Voice Over Business. (This material is being constantly updated.)  The Manual gives you all the information you will need from start to finish; i.e.  from What you need to Know in your Performances, all the way through What to put on your Demo, How to Package it, How to make Contacts, How to Set Fees, The Equipment you need to Record at Home, etc. etc.  No matter where you are in your VO pursuit, you can refer to this manual when you need it most!  You’ll be soooooo glad you have this Manual!  (See the Table of Contents on the Website under: “Tips”

SETTING UP YOUR HOME STUDIO    FEE: $75  ONE NIGHT     7-9PM

To get access to Voice Over auditions and jobs, You must be able to record at Home to send your recordings to clients via the Internet!   Contrary to many notions, it is NOT expensive to set this up and is easier than you might imagine!  I will show you what recording/editing programs to get, (some are Free!), what equipment I recommend and show you how to record and edit.  All of this will be on a large screen so you can easily see what is being demonstrated.  You will practice recording each other; then you’ll feel at ease when you try at home!   You will receive Hand-Outs on where to buy the equipment.  NOTE: All equipment information is also in the “Business of Voice Over” Manual.

CREATING YOUR WEBSITE        FEE: $75  ONE NIGHT      7-9PM

If you want to get work over the Internet or even just be able to refer potential clients to your Demo tracks, you need you own Website!   Although many servers offer free website pages, the Templates are rudimentary and the site often cannot handle Audio Bytes, or the service does not provide easy access of Audio for the potential buyer!  Through much experimentation, I have found an excellent provider for an amazingly low cost!  I will walk you through the steps and you’ll be creating your site the way you want it look and be able to add or change any part of it without having to go through a Webmaster!    This same provider also offers several different price plans, some of which include adding as many additional sites as you want!  Their services are all-encompassing with over 1500 templates to choose from as well as being able to create your own design from scratch.  They also offer domain hosting, web optimization, shopping carts, PayPal, and many other features.  Plus, they are always available for on-line personal technical help.  It’s time to get yourself known across the country with your own Website!

IN-STUDIO PROFESSIONAL SESSIONS  FEE:  $75   7-9PM   Limit:  12

These Sessions fill up fast!  Register Early!  (Get on the Mailing List upcoming Dates.) at various studios.  These sessions fill up fast, so register early! Fee is due ONE WEEK prior to session.  To guarantee the session will be held, there are no cancellations, so once you have registered, you are responsible for the fee whether you attend or not.  Fee is due ONE WEEK before session! Scheduled the 3rd or 4th Thursday of each month, depending on facilitator availability.

These Special Events are held ONCE A MONTH in a professional studio with a different facilitator each time.  These sessions give you an invaluable opportunity to enhance your job potential by getting the inside info and experience you need from working with Professional Writers, Directors & Producers, who could hire you!  Performers need to have Voice Over Experience or have completed the Basics Foundational training. These are NOT practice workshops! The sessions are conducted by a Professional Producer or Director; you will be treated as a professional performer.   These are the ONLY opportunities in Arizona for you to gain a professional Voice Over experience as well as invaluable information for your Voice Over Career, before you get hired!  And we've had occasions when one of the performers in the workshop was hired for a project!

NOTE: (If you feel you're not yet at a competitive performance level, we sometimes have spaces available for you to be an observer at a reduced fee, once the Performers have registered.)

IMPROV FOR VOICE OVER   FEE: $50   SATURDAY SESSION

All Professional Voice Over Performers will tell you how important it is to know how to improvise!   It is an invaluable tool to help you "think on your feet", become more creative in your script interpretations and bring something "special" to the table for your client!   If you feel stuck in your interpretations or need to feel more comfortable in taking risks, you NEED to experience IMPROV.  

ONE-ON-ONE COACHING

PRIVATE SESSIONS     FEE:   $75 an hour

Mondays or Wednesdays 1:00-5:00PM

      Occasional Evenings can be arranged

These sessions can be a First-Time Consultation in which I’ll have you perform various scripts on mic and give you a critique.  At the end of the session I’ll tell you what next steps I recommend.   You can also use these sessions to polish the performances you’re working on; to consult with me re: your Demo material; learn to use a recording/editing program, discuss packaging/promotion or just ask questions about the business.

VOICE OVER BY MAIL 

This coaching service is for anyone with a Home Studio.  (You can buy the “Business of Voice Over ” Manual to learn how to do this.)

This method of coaching is for people who want feedback and direction at your own pace.  For Beginners you’ll need to buy the Voice Over By Mail program ($150) which is the same material I use in the on-site Basics Foundational Workshop. It includes all the exercises, scripts, hand-outs and an example CD.   For Advanced Students, I will send you a packet of scripts with directions and format procedures.  (Each packet is $50.)

New! TELEPHONE COACHING FEE:  $75 an hour

These are one-hour sessions for me to direct you over the phone.  You get immediate feedback, performing however many takes you need to “get it”!  My direction is focused, specific and constructive.  If you want to record my comments as well as recording yourself, you will need a home studio setup with a phone-patch; or you can just record yourself on a simple recording device.  For Beginners, we can use the scripts from the Voice Over By Mail workbook (purchased ahead of time); or you can have me send you scripts in advance, or you can use your own material.   For Advanced students, I will send you scripts in advance or you can use your own.
